Looking Back Part 2

The night Rob and I got engaged!!
Since I'm looking back on Rob and I's relationship, I thought that it would be fun to go back to our engagement!  Rob proposed to me on June 16, 2009, and it was one of the happiest days of my life!  For those of you who have not heard the story of how Rob popped the question, I thought that it would be fun to share this with you all!

After dating for over 4 1/2 years, I always told myself that I would know exactly when Rob would propose.  Since he kind of knew this, he definitely had to try his hardest to surprise me, and let me tell you, this is not an easy task!  So on a random Tuesday afternoon, I got a text from Rob asking me what time I planned on getting home from work and what time I planned on going to the gym that night.  I did not really think anything of it because I thought that he was trying to figure out dinner plans for that night.  So when I got home and saw his car in the garage, I started to get suspicious!  Then when I walked into the house and found a path of rose petals all throughout the house, I knew that this was it!  Rob had put up all these pictures from some of our favorite moments all along the rose petal path that I was supposed to follow.  Or course, I just ran up stairs and did not even look at all of them!  He was waiting for me behind a closed door in our room and he was down on one knee, with roses and the ring in his hand.  He had a beautiful proposal for me (of which I do not remember any of) and he asked me to marry him!  It was so romantic and I was so surprised. It was absolutely perfect!!
Showing off my new bling!!
Practically the second after Rob proposed we started planning the wedding!  I flew down to St. Pete to spend 2 weeks planning the whole thing with my mom and the craziness never stopped!  We went from one event to another and I must say that I loved every second of it!  Now that it has almost been a year since our wedding day, I have to admit that I am starting to miss all the craziness of planning a wedding.  I think that what I miss the most is spending lots of time with my family and friends.  It was so much fun to be able to celebrate and see everyone a lot in such a short amount of time.  Weddings really do bring everyone closer together, and I would love to be able to see everyone again as much as I did during that time.  But I guess since I can't get married again, the only other way to bring people together is to have a baby....  But that's not happening anytime soon!!!!!  For now, I'm extremely happy being married to my best friend and looking back all the pictures from all of the events.  Here are some of my favorite pictures from the time we got engaged to just before the wedding.

Looking Back...

With Rob and I's one year wedding anniversary approaching, I thought that it would be fun to look back at our relationship and how it all began.  Most of you know this story already, but hopefully this is new to a lot of you, and it will be fun for me to go through it all again!

Rob and I first met in the Fall of 2003.  I was a young and impressionable freshman at the University of Florida, and Rob was an older man on campus... a junior.  If you are familiar at all with big SEC schools, then you know that the whole fall semester is devoted to college football, and I was just starting to learn all about this when the first gator game was upon us.  (Even though I grew up in a very athletic household, football was not something that I cared too much about, and I didn't really know too much about Gator football, even though one of brothers had already graduated from here.  I guess should have been paying more attention to Jorge when he would talk about the gators!)  So back to Rob and I... The gators had just won their first game of the 2003 season against San Jose State University (I know big win!!), and it was time to celebrate!  Since I had just started pledging Kappa Delta earlier that week, I thought that it would be a great idea to go out with some of my new pledge sisters.  I had no idea what to do after a big win, so I kind of just followed along with my new friends and ended up at the Sigma Chi house.  I would soon find out that after every gator win, pretty much every fraternity house will throw a big party.  So here I was, a freshmen, entering a fraternity house not really knowing anyone, when a nice, polite gentleman approaches me.  He noticed that I was wearing Rainbow brand flip flops, and pointed out that he was wearing them too.  (I know, what a pick up line!  How could I honestly fall for that!!)  We then started to talk about living in Florida... I was from St. Petersburg, and he lived in Tarpon Springs for a couple of years (for those of you that don't know your Florida geography, these two cities are pretty close to one another). We chatted for a couple more minutes about who knows what, and that was the end of that!

Fast forward a couple of weeks later....

The first sorority date function was approaching rapidly, and every girl was supposed to invite a guy to be their date.  Again, not really knowing anyone and pretty clueless on how this whole date function thing worked, one of my new sorority sisters said that she could find me a date.  I was pretty excited that I didn't have to worry about asking someone, but also worried about who I would be set up with!  Little did I know that she would set me up with the Rainbow flip flop guy!  On the day of the date function (the theme was cops and robbers) I went over to some older KDs house to wait for my date there.  When Rob showed up in his Sherlock Holmes outfit, I just knew that we were going to have so much fun together, and of course we did!

After taking Rob on my first Kappa Delta date function, he went as my date for every single one after that!  What a lucky guy, huh??  We definitely had a blast together in college and will never forgot all those moments together.  Who would have thought that I would meet my husband the very first weekend at college!

One more thing... I still wear those same rainbow flip flops that I was wearing when we first met!

Our first date function together!  Rob has Sherlock Holmes and me just wearing black... I'm not a costume person!

Another picture from the date function.  I love Rob's magnifying glass!

Happy Hour Monday!!

Need a new drink to mix up your happy hour with??  Then you should really try the Skinnygirl margarita.  They are absolutely delicious and all you have to do is open the bottle and serve over ice!  Yes, you heard me correctly, this margarita drink is already made and nothing needs to be added to it.  Who knew that making a margarita could be this easy??  Enjoy and happy Monday!!

One of my worst qualities...

I'm sure my mom and dad would say that I don't have any bad qualities, but if you ask my husband... well let's just say that this would be at the top of his list!  This quality is something that drives Rob crazy, and I can't blame him.  Let me give you some examples:

Example 1: One of my all time favorite lunches is peanut butter and jelly.  If you knew me growing up, you probably wouldn't believe this because I HATED peanut butter.  But, over the years I have grown to love this combination... only if it's paired with strawberry jelly!  So as one can imagine, I can go through a lot of both of these items.  So a few weeks back I was at Publix without my grocery list.  (Yes this can be dangerous as you will soon find out!)  I was passing through the peanut butter and jelly aisle, when I realized that we were almost out of one of these items.  I was almost positive that it was peanut better, so I went ahead and bought another jar.  It wasn't until I went to put away the peanut butter that I saw in the pantry that we already had 2 jars of peanut butter!!  So, I added the 3rd jar of peanut butter to the pantry and realized it was jelly that we were out of!!

Example 2: Sometimes Publix can have some great Buy One, Get One Free items at the front of their store.  A few weeks back, they had some really good marinara sauces in their bins.  If you know me, then you know I am a HUGE Italian fan and will never turn down anything with marinara in it.  So I grabbed 2 bottles not thinking anything of it, until  I went to put these jars away.  What do you think I found in my pantry??  FOUR bottles of marinara already on the shelf!!!

What can I learn from example 1 and 2??  Always bring my shopping list with me to the grocery store...  But what happens when I do bring my grocery list to the store??

Example 3: Today I went to Sam's Club for the primary reason of buying toilet paper.  I noticed in our guest bathroom (where I keep most of it) that we were completely out.  When I went to look in our bathroom I noticed that we only had a few rolls left.  So I made a mental note that I need to buy toilet paper at Sam's Club when I went there today.  I was feeling really good about myself for actually buying something that we needed until I got home with the toilet paper.  I opened our closet where we keep our cleaning supplies, and what do I find??  A huge package of 30 some odd rolls of toilet paper!!

What can I learn from example 3??  It doesn't matter if I have a grocery list or not, I will still buy items that we already have too many of in our house.  Now let's try and see if we can keep this secret from Rob!! :)

Does this happen to anyone else, or is it just me??

Want to hear my secret??

Okay everyone, get ready... I'm about to share a big secret with and only a few people have been let in on this one. So brace yourselves for the big, exciting news that I'm about to let you all be a part of.  Well here it is I AM..........

......A HUGE GLEE FAN!!!  I guess the kids these days call that a gleek

I never thought that I would like this show, but I really should not be surprised by this fact at all. I am mean do you even know who my best friend of all time is??  She is the girl who dragged me to every single play, musical, and any other type of performance ever known to man growing up.

Let me take you back to 1991.   This was the year that fate totally stepped in and introduced me to Carrie Jean Curtis.  She was the new girl at school, and I was assigned to show her around and introduce her to all 50 students in our grade.  (Yes, we went to a very small school.)  Now, I'm sure that you are beginning to wonder, what does Carrie have to do with me liking Glee?  Well, she has a lot to do with it!  First of all, Carrie was the type of girl who did ballet, jazz, and tap growing up, along with singing and piano lessons.  (I was the girl who did gymnastics... I feel you are either one or the other, never both.)  Also, her family loved going to plays and musicals and traveling to New York to see them.  Since we were best friends, I had to be supportive of all of her hobbies.  Let me tell you, I have been to my fair share of performances over the years, but I have come to realize that I did like attending all of these events because they were something very new and different for me... WAY out of my comfort zone.  See, I grew up with 2 very athletic older brothers, and we NEVER went to plays as a family.  One time my mom made us all dress up and go to the Nutcracker for Christmas... let's just say that she has still never lived that one down, and we never went back again.  Again, sorry for the sidetrack!  So back to Carrie.  Since the "arts" were something that I had never really experienced before... I really did enjoy tagging along with the Curtis family and supporting Carrie at her numerous recitals throughout the years.... she is very talented!

Now that you've all received a little background on Carrie Jean, here is my second reason that she has a major part in me becoming a GLEEK!  Since this show is right up Carrie's alley, and I'm sure that she wishes this is really what high school was like, she's the one that gave me the first season of Glee to watch.  When I mentioned to her at Christmas time that I had never seen the show before...  I thought that she was going to faint on me.  Since she had just received the DVDs as a Christmas gift, she very thoughtfully let me borrow the whole season to try out.  (Mind you, if I lost any.... I don't think that we would be friends ever again.) So I started watching a few episodes..... and couldn't stop!  I am obsessed!  I finished the whole season and now really want to try and watch the second season!  I went onto Fox's website, and of course they aren't showing the first couple of episodes anymore!  And then I tried Hulu, but you have to pay to watch those episodes!  I am way too cheap, and not to mention unemployed, to pay even more than we already do to watch TV.  So what's a girl to do??  Not really sure yet, but I think that it involves me waiting until this season is over and Carrie gets the second season so I can borrow them from her!  Sidenote: Carrie, you will get the first season back at Easter!

To make this whole story a lot shorter... I am very grateful to have Carrie as my best friend!

Who else has a best friend that has really made a lasting impression on them and helped shaped them into the person they are today?  Not sure what I would do without Carrie!

Lay of the Land

Since moving here we haven't really explored the "nightlife" of Pensacola Beach because why go to a bar with just Rob to drink when we could do that from the comfort of our home??  But all that changed this past weekend because we had friends in from out of town! Rob's old college roommate, Jon, and his fiance, Tommie, came into town from Jacksonville for her bridal shower. (Small world that we know 2 people from Pensacola that still have family living here!). We were both really excited to get to spend time with them both in our new town.

On Saturday morning, Rob got up bright and early to head to the golf course with Jon and Campbell... the only time he will get up early on the weekends is for golf!  While he was out golfing, I got to attend Tommie's bridal shower in town and get to meet some of her wonderful family and friends and watch her be "showered" with lots of wonderful gifts!  I was so happy that it wasn't me anymore, just having gone through the whole wedding deal, it was very nice to sit back and enjoy being a guest at a shower!  After the shower and golfing were over, we decided to head out for a drink at a local beach bar that is known for their bushwackers.  Now, some of you might already know what is this drink is, but I had never had one in my life and have been told by many people here in Pensacola that I need to try one... and boy did this place not disappoint!!  The drink was delicious!  I have no idea what is in them, but Rob liked to described them as a chocolate milkshake.  We had so much fun at this first place, that we decided to walk on over to the next bar and I was told once again that I had to try their signature drink there.  This one is called diesel fuel and it comes in a big mason jar and is filled with I don't know how many kinds of liquors.  Since I am not a big liquor drinker, I decided to share that drink!  We had so much fun at this place listening to the great band that was performing that night and getting to hang out with some great friends that we hardly get to see anymore.  We can't wait for you all to come back and visit and for your wedding in July!!

Anyone else want to come visit us and help us get to know the lay of the land here in Pensacola Beach??  Visitors are always welcome... we have a spare room and can walk to all the bars on the beach!  What's not to enjoy??  :)

I'm Back!

I would just like to take this opportunity to apologize to all my followers (less than a handful) for my lack of posting these past couple of weeks.   I promise to never go this long again without a post. I know that all of you (4 of you to be exact) look forward to reading about The Burnett Family whenever you can!  So what exactly was a I up to??

Umm... let me rack my brain to see if I can remember if anything important or worth sharing has happened in these past couple of weeks... I'm sure that none of you want to hear about my food poisoning/24 flu that I got on March 2nd.  I mean no one wants to hear how I woke up around 1am from my cozy bed to spend the rest of the night sleeping my in very comfortable bathroom, using the toilet seat as a pillow.... then I got to spend the rest of the morning and afternoon watching TV all day hoping to feel better before my 6am flight the next morning!!  I guess one perk of being unemployed is that I didn't have to worry about calling in sick!  :)  I know that you are now all curious to find out if I got better in time for my flight the next morning, or did I have to use that little baggy in the seat back??  Well you all will be happy to hear that I was all better by 8pm that evening and had enough strength to pack my bags that night!  (It would have definitely helped if I didn't put off packing until the last minute, but who could have foreseen my getting sick?)

Now, I'm sure that you all are wondering, where did I go on my early morning flight??  My hubby and I went spring skiing in the Canyons!!  We met my parents, aunt and uncle, and one of my brothers out in Utah for a week full of skiing!  We had an amazing time and had perfect weather while we were there.  One day it even got into the 50's while we were skiing... so much warmer than our January trip to Big Sky where it was -10 degrees F one of our days skiing!  I don't think that Rob and I will ever ski in January again after "shredding" the mountain during spring skiing!  (Like my lingo there??  Learned that on the mountain!)

Now you all are up to date on my life, and you even got more info on my life than I'm sure you ever wanted to know!  That's the beauty of blogging! :)

Of course I couldn't leave you all without any pictures!  Here are some from the trip!
If you ever ski/snowboard at the Canyons, make sure to stop for a mid afternoon snack that the Bruges Waffles stand!  They are just as good as the waffles that I had in Brussels a few years back!!

Hubby and me on the mountain on our last day.  By far the most beautiful day while we were there!

Crazy Weather

Fog.  That one little word really does seem to fascinate me!  I am really not sure why because it's not like I was born yesterday and have never seen it before.  But for some reason I have really started to notice it more and more since we moved to Pensacola.  I guess that it is probably because of the view from our condo.  Since we live out at the beach (which we love by the way!), we really do have a nice view of the beach from the side of our condo and of Gulf Breeze from the back.  Now to the point!

I was down on the ground floor of our condo in the exercise room working out... I know I live in Florida and I should be outside enjoying the weather... but back to my story!  I rode the elevator back up to our condo and looked out of the window to see... nothing!  Now this is not my normal view as I have just explained!  So I quickly took out my phone and took a picture so I could show my husband when he gets back from golfing.  Here is what I saw:

As you can see, this is not a pretty sight!  This is not the first time that the fog has taken over out here.  Again, I am not quite sure why I find this so interesting.  But after about 10 minutes, the fog suddenly lifted and I once again had my fabulous view of the beach!

It is still a little foggy over the water, but this is more like it!!  Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday!

Beyond Ecstatic

My life is Pensacola just got 1000% times better!!  Why you ask??

ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS JUST MOVED HERE!!

When my husband and I moved here back in October, we knew that life would be an adjustment for us socially.  In Atlanta, we lived in this amazing neighborhood that was filled with people our own age and similar interests.  We had a neighborhood softball league that we played on practically year round, went to trivia night at the delicious Kayson's (only the RLX crew knows that I'm kidding), and when summer came around... you knew that everyone would be up at the pool!  So it was very hard for us to leave that environment and move to a place where we didn't really know anyone our age.  Fortunately for us, we did know some people here that have been a tremendous help to us so far!  The four of you know who you are, and thank you for your help with everything so far!! :)

Now back to the reason why I am so happy!!  On Sunday, one of my best friends and her family moved her to be closer to her husband's family.  (His parents are 2 of the four people that have helped us out greatly here!)  My husband and I knew that they would be moving here eventually, but the wait was far too long!  (Not really, I'm just being dramatic!)  But now that they are here, I feel that our lives in Pensacola have officially started.  There are so many fun events that this city hosts, and with spring and summer right around the corner, I know that we are all going to have a blast together!  I can't wait for all the fun times that we are going to get to share together.  And if my friend and her husband weren't great enough to have here... I also get to spend time with their son!!  :)

Here are a few pictures of the fun that we have had in the past with this wonderful couple... I know that I will be posting lots of pictures of them in the future!

The Caldwell's and Burnett's in Atlanta!  We will need to take a picture in Pensacola now!
Me with their handsome son!  At his first Gator game, of course!

A Tale of Two Pinot Noirs

Ahhh... Wine.  Why are you so good to me?  I must get my love for wine from my mom.  As they say, "She get it from her momma."  Whoever said that, you are right on the money!  First I would like to start by saying that I am not an alcoholic. I just love a nice glass of wine (or two) every now and again.  Okay, now back to my tale of two pinot noirs!

Since my husband and I are young newlyweds and just starting our lives together, we don't always have a lot of money to spend on items like wine.  You can normally find me perusing, the bottom shelf in the wine aisle at Publix.  I hardly ever buy anything from the top 3 shelves.  So, whenever we come across a good bottle of wine, we always try to remember that one for the future.

The bottle on the left is one that we continually buy and love.  This is the Mirassou Pinot Noir.  This one usually costs between $7.99 to $9.99 depending on where you buy it and if it's on sale.  Then there is the bottle on the right, Frei Brothers Pinot Noir.  Let me start out by saying that we NEVER buy this bottle of wine ourselves.  This particular bottle was given to me for my birthday by some really good family friends.  When they gave me this bottle, my mouth practically dropped to the floor and I could hardly stop smiling I was so happy!  I had been told a few years back by my best friend's father, who is a wine connoisseur, that if you ever get a bottle of Pinot Noir that says Russian River Valley on it, then you know it's excellent.  Since I've had this bottle before, probably at the expense of my parents, I knew how good it was, and I knew that we had to save this for a special occasion.  This isn't your Tuesday night wine that you drink with leftovers!!  So I'm sure you are wondering when did we drink this wine (since the bottle is empty in the picture)??  We opened it on Valentine's Day, and it was a great addition to our fabulous dinner!

So, if you are in the market for a nice bottle of Pinot Noir that is affordable... go with the Mirassou Pinot Noir.  If you are trying to impress the in-laws or have the money to splurge on a fantastic bottle, go with the Frei Brothers Pinot Noir.  I promise you that you won't be disappointed.  Both of these wines are very good, but they both bring something different to the table (literally!).

Anyone else have any good bottles of Pinot Noir to recommend?

First Married Valentine's Day

When it comes to Valentine's day, everyone has their own ideas and opinions for this holiday.  Let's go ahead and take me for example....  I am all for the hype of Valentine's day.  Bring on the flowers (esp. roses), cheesy cards, and everything else that goes along with this day.  I might like to pretend that it wouldn't bother me if my husband didn't make a big deal out of this day, but I would actually be pretty hurt if he didn't.  You may not share this opinion with me, but I'm very happy that my husband knows me so well and spoils me!

This is not to say that I wasn't a little worried on Sunday (Valentine's dad eve) that he may not do anything for Valentine's day on Monday.  I mean, we are married now!  Since he doesn't have to "win me over" anymore, I had some doubt in my mind that he may not do anything this year like he has in the past.  Of course, I tried not to bring the topic up because I was trying to see if he would remember on his own.  So did he make the effort.... you bet he did!  I not only got a dozen roses, but also a very delicious (and entertaining... pictures to follow) steak dinner!  He did an absolutely wonderful job spoiling me, and I loved every minute of it.  I can definitely say that he has set the bar high for married life Valentine's day!  I have included some pictures from the night so you can see how entertaining my night was!
Here's my hubby with his Gator chef's hat preparing our outstanding meal!  He is such a ham!

This brings flambe to a whole new level!!  Yes, he is behind that flame!
Hope you all had an amazing Valentine's day with your loved ones as well!

Tasty Tuesday

On Sunday night before the Superbowl I started to make an amazing appetizer for my husband and myself, and I thought that I should share some of my crowd pleasing recipes!  Now, I am not the best cook, or really that much of a cook at all, but there are some recipes that I can cook.  I really like to entertain and use all of the wedding platters and serving pieces that we received as gifts, and it is definitely easier to entertain with all of the pieces that I have now!  Anyways, back to the recipe! The first recipe that I am going to share with you all is a Buffalo Chicken Dip.  I can not and will not take credit for this tasty appetizer.  This was given to me by my best friend's older sister a few years ago, and every time I make this for an event or get together, people go crazy for it!  So without further ado, here you all go!

Buffalo Chicken Dip

2 lbs cooked chicken and shredded
12 oz. Texas Pete Hot Sauce (or Buffalo Sauce)
16 oz. T. Marzetti's Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing (by the lettuce)
Two 8oz. blocks of cream cheese
8 oz. shredded cheddar cheese
Bag of Tostitos tortilla chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.  Place the cooked, shredded chicken on the bottom of a 13x9 inch pan.  Then pour the hot sauce over the chicken.  Meanwhile, melt the blue cheese and the cream cheese together until smooth.  Pour the melted blue cheese and cream cheese over the chicken and hot sauce.  Cook for 20 minutes in the oven.  Then pour the cheddar cheese on top and put back in the oven for 10 minutes.

*Now here are some important tips that you need to follow in order for this to be as yummy as mine! (Don't mean to sound vain, but I do get a lot of compliments on it!)

1. Please make sure that you don't use the canned chicken!  If you don't have time to bake your chicken beforehand, go ahead and by a rotisserie chicken from the deli (I like the lemon pepper flavor), and shred that till you have enough for the recipe.
2. The T. Marzetti Chunky salad dressing is really the best one to use.  I have had other blue cheese dressings in it before, and this one is by far the best.
3. Make sure that you serve this hot!!  It is best when the cheese is still runny and not congealed together.  So if you bring this to a party, try and at least do the last step of melting the cheese at the party if you can!
4. If you are making this for a smaller crowd, go ahead and half the recipe and put everything in an 8x8 pan.  My husband loves to heat this up in the microwave and eat it the next day (or days after), so if you have a lot left over, no worries!

Hope you all enjoy this yummy appetizer!  I will warn you now that it is absolutely addicting!

Small Town Living

Like I said in my "about me" section, my husband and I just moved to Pensacola Beach from Atlanta.  While we love our new lives here and can't wait for warmer weather so we can enjoy our beach condo, there are certainly some aspects of Atlanta that we miss.  For right now, I will just say that I miss all the conveniences that Atlanta has to offer.

I'm sure you all are wondering where I am going with this, and I will get to the point now.  I just bought the iphone 4 (yay!!), and it came in the mail this afternoon!  So as you can all imagine, I was like a little kid on Christmas day and quickly ripped open the box so I could see my new source of entertainment.  But, all that excitement had to be put on hold... since my old POS phone (Blackberry Pearl, I know really.. who has that phone anymore?) is so outdated, I can't backup my contacts on my phone and transfer them to my new iphone!  So I quickly got back in the my car, drove over the beach bridge into "town" so I could get to the Verizon store.  I walk in and explain my problem, only to have them tell him that this is the first iphone that they have seen and they have none of the equipment for that phone!  I mean really Verizon!?! They they begin to tell me that this store may never an actual iphone in there to sell!!  So if I ever have any problems with this phone, where am I supposed to take it??  This would never happen in Atlanta!  I am sure that every Verizon store there has the capability to deal with customers like me, since they are such a big market and are prepared for this.  Oh well...

So now, I'm sitting here watching Gilmore Girls waiting for my husband, the IT guy, to come home from work so he can work his magic!  He will probably make some comment about how he is off the clock and his services will be double now!

Hopefully I will get this whole situation worked out soon, so I can start using my new phone!! I can't wait to see what the iphone4 can do!

A New Beginning

So, maybe I'm jumping on the bandwagon of blogging, but I really thought that this would be a fun and exciting way for document my life as a newlywed.  From what I have been told, my husband and I will never get this time in our lives back.  Right now it is just the two of us, and we are really enjoying every minute of our new lives together.

We got married back in April of 2010, and are rapidly approaching our 1 year wedding anniversary.  I would love to be able to reflect on our first 10 months as newlyweds and be able to continue this for many years to come.  Please feel free to comment as you see fit!  I love constructive criticism... how else are we supposed to learn!
